From the same night and location taken back in August. One of the night chasing NEOWISE Comet. It was a overcast night with lots of clouds moving quite fast. The NEOWISE Comet appeared on and off over the first half of the night and as the comet went below the mountain. A little change in direction to capture a time lapse of the night hoping the milky way will be showing at some point with all the clouds covered half the sky. So from all the frames I captured on this evening, I picked the one with the least amount of clouds in the sky showing half of the milky way. Hope you enjoy and have a great night!
Winter Approaching
Weather is getting colder as Winter is near. Temperature in Vancouver is dropping fast and looks like snow will be here very soon too! Before the snow gets here, these are some of the photos from my October trip to Alberta. It was cold, but great to see some scenery that I;ve been before. And this time was covered with snow!! Hope you enjoy!
Calm and Peaceful
Although there isn’t much clouds to give a more vibrant sunset in the sky on this evening. The quietness and calm water still make it a very memorable moment!!
Stutfield Galaxy Pano
Stutfield Glacier from a snowy night back in October. This panorama is combined with 14 portrait oriented images. You can view this panorama in large view from the Panorama gallery!!
Mount Indefatigable
Sunset clouds over Mt. Indefatigable in Kananaskis Country, Alberta
North Saskatchewan River
A fine day along highway 11 in Alberta with a higher view of the North Saskatchewan River. It is a glacier-fed river that flows from the Canadian Rockies to central Saskatchewan!
Another Moraine Sunrise
Moraine Lake was closed for the season in early October this year. I was a little too late to catch some snow scene at the lake last month. But here is a click from this August.
Print available!!
Sunrise Glory
A lovely morning at Upper Kananaskis Lake waiting for sunrise. After a long night shoot at the lower lake and then headed to the upper lake quietly waiting. It was a very peaceful morning!
Frozen Chaos
Ever since my first time visited this waterfalls, I’ve been thinking it will be very cool to shoot it when there are snow covering it or maybe even under the starry night sky. Last year, I visited it in deep Winter and the waterfalls was completely frozen. So I made my trip this October and try again. The scene was lovely and refreshing. But it was quite a journey…
First, have to snowshoe on a rocky with light snow section uphill. And that put a lot of scratches on it… Distance wasn’t long at all, for just few hundred meters. But need be very careful with on each step trying not to destroy the fresh snow where I have to set my composition. And I have to say it wasn’t easy to find a composition out of this chaotic beauty. And not to mention that with a 14mm lens on my camera, I’ll have to stand right inside the water to frame the shot. I was pretty excited that I finally gave a try to this scene and was taking the shot that was in my head for a very long time. It was great until step in about half a feet of water and started feeling my boots is leaking from the back of my left foot… And decided to get out of the water and head back down. Also won’t be making any plan to come back at night. At least not the upper part of this waterfalls!
Chasing the Sky
Whenever I travel to chase the dark sky, always try to capture some different image on the same night. But it is tricky and not easy to travel to multiple locations on the same night as it’s often not a very long period of time to shoot the center of the milky way. Also it will be very hard to find and frame your shot under the dark sky. So some preparation will always helps!
Are you interested in chasing the night sky and take photo of the night sky like these? If so, I will be holding 2 workshops next August in Banff / Jasper National Park on Landscape / Waterscapes and Nightscapes Photography!
