NEOWISE and Aurora Borealis

A full day drive on the David Thompson Highway in Alberta. Stopped at few different spots along the highway trying to find new interesting places. The day was on and off with sun and cloudy sky. But by sunset time, storm clouds started to roll in and covered the sky.

After searching for sometimes, my buddy and I settled at a beach right inside the lake. It was extremely windy when setting up our tent. After we cook and ate our dinner, we decided to sleep earlier as the sky was covered with clouds. And soon after we got into our sleeping bags, the wind started blowing like crazy. Our tent which have about 6 feet height in the middle was blown to 45 degree angles…! Then we started to hear rain drops. Luckily the wind stopped and the rain wasn’t really that heavy. Since we were very tired from the day, we just looked at each other and get back into the sleeping bags and sleep.

After about 1 – 2 hours, I woke up and realized the clouds was cleared because we left a little window opened so that we can see the night sky. Even though I was still very tired, I got up and start setting up my tripod right in front of my tent. Took my first shot and noticed there is a Northern Lights right in front of the lake. Not just that there is Aurora Borealis, after I check photo on the big screen and realized the NEOWISE Comet is at the bottom left corner!! And I quickly set up my timer for a time lapse capture. Here is one of the frame from the time lapse.

I set up my camping chair right beside my tripod and just listening to the shutter sound and watching the night kept dancing. It was a wonderful night! After an hour or two, the Northern Lights started to fade and I stopped my camera timer control. Turn around and try one last shot to see if can see the milky way or not. And this is what I got. Can you believe all 3 images were captured on the same night?

Just wanted to share more photos with you of how my journey goes. Sometime, they might not be the best photos like these were just taken beside the tent. But they carry memorable moments!! And you are going to see more under my Blog page.

Work that I personally like will be in the photo gallery and they are available for Print

Curve of the Night

The famous train track view in the Canadian Rockies on a cloudy night with a little visibility of the starry night sky!! One of the frame from a time lapse video captured on the same night!!

Prints available. Hope you enjoy!!

Emerald Lake Lodge

My first night arrived at Emerald Lake from a recent trip with a little bit of fog start rolling in. Multiple exposure shots were used to blend into not this to keep the lights down! Have a great day!!

Good Old Place

A new visit at a good old place in West Vancouver. Just about 35-40 minutes drive from downtown Vancouver. It is likely the closest location from the city that I am able to photographed the milky way. It is a bit of a faded gradient in the sky and the milky way due to the light pollution from Vancouver on the left side) and lights from the islands on the right side… But well… what do you expect? It’s a short drive from the city!!! People are just surprised it is possible to do so from here!!

Perseids at Callaghan

Great night capturing the Perseids Meteor Shower in Callaghan Valley. The is results was Blend with 2 shots for the foreground and 8 shots for the night skies that captured with meteor over the 2 plus hours period.

Hope you enjoy!

US Southwest

US Southwest, is a region of the western United States. the name that represent four of the states on the west side of United State including Nevada, Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico. And some even includes Southern California, parts of Colorado and western Texas as well. But the definitions of the region have never been standardized.

Everything you see in this video was captured in a singe road trip a few years ago. I drove 12000 km round trip from Vancouver, Canada all by myself for 4 weeks. But I only got to Monument Valley in Arizona at the most. And only scratch the surface of the area. So there are a lot of more spectacular locations that I don’t know about at the time… Guess it will never be enough research before and never enough time to explore this magnificence area that shown us “TIME”. To realized how small we really are as a human being.

I was planning to have another road trip this April down to Utah again. Of course it is now cancelled because of the outbreak happening right now… Well… I am trying to keep doing some post-production with all the footage I shot over the years to stay positive. Lucky I still got a lot of hard drive to go through! Hope to keep the posting going!! 😉

Night Vision

Night Vision

Trying to stay home during this difficult time, I tried to put all my energy to focus on finishing off a lot of photo and video that I shot over the years and not to think too much about the situation. Following the news are important, but it is almost very depressing watching days and months of this craziness happening right in front of our face. What do you do to stay positive these days? And here’s is an image from back in 2017.

Canyon And Valley

A mix of Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah and Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada. Another time lapse from the US Southwest!

Zion National Park

A Time Lapse Video of Wall and Shade This video was all captured in one trip. It was my first time visited Zion National Park back in 2014. Arrived after midnight and took one nightscape time lapse. Then have to catch up with some sleep because of the long drive. After a few hour slept and keep shooting at a few spots in the park watched the moon set and sun rising behind. Didn’t do much hiking other than the Zion Valley viewpoint. And I was so glad I did that as the view is just spectacular!! See it yourself! It is at 00:28 The last shot was taken from sunset to sunrise with a moon rise in between after the night get dark with a lot of traffic over the night. Which I think it was a nice capture with so much going on in a single night!! 😀 Hope you enjoy it!
